<13. rujan 2012.>    Great prizes Croatian Designers Society project Shipbuilding Institute

Tonight at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb the "Exhibition of Croatian Design 1112" was opened and the prizes were awarded to the most significant design achievements in the past two years. The Grand Prize of the Croatian Designers Society for the best product design in the past two-year period was awarded to the project of Brodarski institut d.o.o., designer Ivana Peko and co-author Mislav Bezovnik - passenger catamaran Millennium Diamond designed and built for the English client, City Cruises. The other members of the project professional team were: Davor Deželjin, Aldo Draguzet, Petra Kitarović, Dino Lončarić, Toni Lučić, Pero Miloš, Marin Reljić, Dinko Salopek and Ivan Rutnik. The jury, in the explanation of the award pointed out that the design of the passenger catamaran due to its complexity, and the fact that it was designed and implemented in a highly competitive international environment, deserves the highest professional recognition at the biennial exhibition of the Croatian design, i.e. the Grand Prize of the Croatian Designers Society. This project provides a valuable example of close cooperation between designers and experts in various fields, where the designers role was crucial in coordinating complex requirements, and despite technical limitations and given requirements that this specific typology implies, it has resulted in creation of the distinctive identity of the vessel. This achievement, which is completely designed and produced in Croatia for international market, is also a message on the importance and feasibility of investment in design and of the success that is result of synergy between design, industry and business. Member of the jury, Neven Kovačić said: Among the middle generations during the past years we have been witnessing a clear profiling of authors in specific segments of design. The number of active designers due to objective reasons and difficulties is getting smaller every year, and therefore all those who have managed to keep the interest and enthusiasm over the years should be congratulated. At the national and international scene it is worthy to follow the production and development of authors' creations Numen/ForUse, and special pleasure is to witness the success of the designof the passenger catamaran Millennium Diamond by Ivana Peko whose design, following the concepts that we had seen at previous exhibitions, has been realized for the Olympics in London. This evidence that longterm effort brings results is a good motivation for those who are already a little tired of the local reality. The exhibition will be opened till 15 November 2012.

< 5. srpanj 2011.>    HPP Senj sucesfully finished

With the development of the new application for the turbine governors A, B and C, the Hydropower Plant Senj became part of the secondary frequency and tie-line power for electrical power system of the Republic of Croatia. Each generating unit has a power of 72 MW, and thus the Croatian electric-power industry obtained new 216 MW of secondary control. The particular value of this project is that the Brodarski Institute, by developing the control model, changing the software completely, and making revision of the hardware successfully solved the years-long problem of active power control in primary and secondary control in Hydropower Plant Senj and all that was done with the hardware platform provided in the year 2003 by a straight competitor. Special attention was paid to the development of turbine governor software in accordance with the standards EC60308: 2005 and IEC61362: 1998 to meet the requirements of the Croatian transmission system operater, i.e. to make it able to perform the active power control during the secondary control operation, in accordance with prescribed tolerances specified in the above mentioned standards. Also, the existing local PLCs of the turbine governing system of power units A, B and C of HPP Senj have been upgraded with a disturbance recorders and integrated into the main real time synchronization system, in order to achieve higher-quality reconstruction of events during occurrence of faults or unusual states of the power system. Therefore, the central processing units have been replaced with the new ones with greater speed and more memory capacity in order to store more data during operation of the disturbance recorder. Also, the operational panels have been replaced with the new ones, in order to accept disturbance recorder related information. Some ten employees of Brodarski Institute led by project manager Krunoslav Horvat, PhD were engaged in the project.

<24. listopad 2006.>    Software for the Control of Longitudinal Air Flow in Tunnels Tested

Last night in the Mala Kapela Tunnel the final acceptance tests of the software for the control of longitudinal air flow in tunnels (CONVEL AIR) were carried out.
With the application of this software in the critical moments of a fire accident it is possible to control the direction and velocity of smoke and to create in this way conditions for the evacuation of passengers in the initial phase of fire, and for intervention of fire and rescue services. Thus, the operators in the traffic control centre are relieved of the burden of manual control of the complex ventilation system. This software is an integral part of the new operational strategy for the control of the road tunnel longitudinal ventilation system in fire accidents, which among other things implicitly includes automatic control of the longitudinal flow of air and smoke in all phases of fire accident. Reliable and efficient smoke control within a tunnel tube is of crucial importance for successful evacuation of passengers and for safe operation of fire service.
The Mala Kapela Tunnel is the first Croatian tunnel in which this software has been implemented in the existing remote control system.
The CONVEL AIR software has been developed by the experts from Brodarski Institute. The work on the software development lasted for about one year, and the project was led by Miodrag Drakulić, PhD for the investor Hrvatske autoceste d.o.o.
