(21 October 2016) Brodarski Institute at the conference on scholarly publishing

The 3rd Conference on Scholarly Publishing in the Context of Open Science “PUBMET2016’’ (http://pubmet.unizd.hr) was held on 20 – 21 October in Zadar. PUBMET2016 is devoted to current topics in the scholarly publishing area and scientific and research work assessment (bibliometrics and altmetrics). The organizers are the Department of Information Sciences of the University of Zadar and Centre for Scientific Research of Ruđer Bošković Institute. Within the session “Business Models in Scholarly Publishing“, the paper “A model of self-sustainable scholarly Open Access journal” authored by Nina Antičić, MSc from Brodarski institut, Prof. Kalman Žiha, PhD and Prof. Nastia Degiuli, PhD from the Zagreb Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture was presented. The paper discusses the issue of financing a digital edition of non-profit international scientific peer reviewed open access journal based on the analysis of authors’ propensity to accept the article processing charge against sponsors’ propensity to advertise in a scholarly journal.

 

 

(17 October 2016) Millennium Diamond ready for new season

The passenger catamaran Millennium Diamond is ready for the new season of winter cruises on the River Thames. In the third week of October, specialists from Brodarski Institute, Krunoslav Horvat, PhD, El.Eng. and Vedran Bakarić, MSc, El.Eng. were in Gravesend, England where the Millennium Diamond was docked for regular annual maintenance. On that occasion, the upgrade of the ship control and monitoring system I-CoMoS was made. The Millennium Diamond was designed in Brodarski Insitute and delivered in Pula in June 2012, just before the Olympic Games in London. The ship owner, tour boat operator City Cruises, uses the vessel for sightseeing of London from the Thames and for the night dining cruises. In the early November the peak of the winter tourist season starts and the culmination is expected during Christmas and New Year’s holidays. About 9 million passengers take sightseeing Thames River cruises every year, and by the year 2020 this number is expected to reach 12 million.

 

 

(October 3, 2016) Brodarski institut at the Congress of WETSUS, the European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology

The annual congress of WETSUS, the European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, was held on 3 and 4 October in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. The Congress theme was Financing Innovation. On the first day of the congress, a panel discussion on financing innovation in the Eastern European countries and their smart specialization strategies was held. Representatives of institutions from Romania, Hungary, Lithuania and Croatia participated in the panel discussion that was moderated by the representative of the European Commission, the Minister of the Environment of the Netherlands, and WETSUS Permanent Representative in Brussels. In the panel discussion Croatia, i.e. Brodarski institut, was represented by Nina Antičić, M.Sc. The second day of the congress was dedicated to researchers and scientific themes. Some forty projects were presented in parallel sessions. On both days of the congress there was an exhibition where innovations related to water technology were presented. More than 40 exhibitors presented their products, services and technologies. During the two days the congress was visited by some 700 visitors.

Opening of the 53. International Congress of Submarine Veterans

The 53rd International Congress of Submarine Veterans (53rd ISC) will be held in Pula from 24-28 May. Brodarski Institute is one of the co-organizers of the Congress. The gathering is bringing together 185 submariners from 24 countries and 5 continents. During four days, the submariners will share experience, reminisced about the past events, but also discuss the prospects of submarine industry development. At the Congress opening ceremony, Nina Antičić, Head of Marketing and Sales of Brodarski Institute, spoke about the possibilities of the development of the Croatian submarine industry. The Congress is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović.
